e.a. seawear

Co-founder Eva Swoboda and I transformed our passion project, Itzi Bitzi, into the brand e.a.seawear—backed by the small business fund of Investitionsbank Berlin. Our mission was to create a unique blend of hand-crocheted and machine-knitted swimwear, combining the art of local craftsmanship with accessible fashion. The handcrafted pieces were made by Berlin’s senior community and a talented Turkish handcraft group. By giving these artisans meaningful work, we aimed to offer not just a side job, but a sense of purpose and belonging.

Project Role: Designed crocheted styles, developed crochet instructions, led crochet groups, build D2C and B2B business, crated brand strategy, developed visual brand identity, designed and implemented website.

There is a strong tradition of handcrafting in Turkey, so many women are skilled in crocheting.

Lots of grandmas ‘applied’ for the crochet job lamenting that ‘no one wants their crocheted tablecloths,’ and newly excited to make something desirable.

Each week, we met over coffee and cake to produce unique crochet styles.
